Building Financial Literacy Skills
In 2018, the Inner West Community Foundation were thrilled to be the successful recipient of the Building Community Financial Capability Grant from the Ecstra Foundation via Hobsons Bay Community Fund. The aim of the grant is to provide access to the resources Australians need to make confident money decisions now and for their financial future.
As such, IWCF worked in conjunction with Victoria University (VU) and community stakeholders to design and create a financial literacy program targeting a variety of Inner West communities of Melbourne. The goals of this program are to fill the gapsin the curriculum for high school students when it comes to practical financial literacy to prepare them for young adulthood.
The program is designed for mid years high-school children (years 8-10) and we also have subsequently expanded the program to meet the needs of adults who may have a lack of financial literacy, where we deliver the program through community groups. We envision in 2022 and beyond, to be able to deliver this program on a wider scale across multiple demographics in Australia so please sign up to our waitlist if you or your organisation is interested.
