Local Impact MEDIA RELEASE – Empower Next Generation

We recently came across an insightful article by @womensagenda that highlights the relationship between family violence and financial freedom, and wanted to share some of the important messages. 📰

“Around 275,000 Australian women experience physical or sexual violence from a current partner each year. Roughly 90,000 of them want to leave but feel they can’t, and among that group, a quarter say the reason comes down to something as blunt as money.”

Building financial security can be an important part of women having choices and options.

The experiences of women who experience family violence are complex and nuanced. Building financial capability can be one important part of creating a wider range of choices, and greater resilience.

At Money Mentor, we believe every woman has the right to access the knowledge systems that underpin her financial freedom, enabling her to step into her power to shape her own financial future.

Your income is only one part of your financial picture. What matters just as much is how much of that income remains after everyday expenses, debt repayments, subscriptions and other financial commitments.

Understanding your take-home income, spending habits and cash flow can help you make more informed financial decisions.

💲Knowing what you earn is important.
🛍️ Knowing where it goes is essential.
🏦 Knowing what you can put towards your goals is where financial awareness becomes financial confidence.

Financial literacy starts with understanding the full picture of your money.

Meet our Mentor, Billy! 🧡

Billy is a uni student from Melbourne's west who joined our team because he wants to help other young people build their financial understanding as they move into adulthood and begin internships and new jobs.

Our Money Mentors deliver workshops to schools and community groups across the state. With a focus on making content accessible and relatable, Money Mentor helps bridge the financial literacy gap young people can often experience.

Money Mentor's very own Aruna presented at the Magic Moments Youth Leadership Summit in July. 💪

With almost 200 people in attendance, Aruna spoke about all things finance and saving. It was wonderful to engage with a room of young people who had such mature and thought-provoking questions and responses about financial literacy.

Thank you to both the @communitybankgisborneanddist and the @communitybankseddon for their support in helping us be there on the day! 🧡
